March 24, 2021 — Fremont-based RK Logistics Group has opened two new warehouses in Newark.

The new locations are part of an ongoing expansion for the company, which offers a range of services including e-commerce fulfillment, management of the flow of goods and services, and warehousing. The facilities, which together offer nearly 410,000 square feet of space, are the company’s first in Newark, Rock Magnan, RK’s president and chief operating officer, told the Business Journal.

“We have more customer needs that are causing us to expand again, and Newark right now has the size of buildings and is close to our customers,” Magnan said.

The larger of the two Newark facilities totals 268,538 square feet and is located at 6753 Mowry Ave. It will be home to RK’s work for semiconductor equipment maker Lam Research, according to a press release.

RK has signed a multi-year lease on the property, at which it will provide Lam with warehousing and shipping services, handle returns on its behalf and coordinate deliveries to its manufacturing plants, among other services, the logistics company said in its release.

The other warehouse, at 7375 Morton Ave., totals 141,275 square feet. It’s part of the larger Morton Commerce Center, a four-building industrial complex that’s partially occupied by Facebook Inc. That facility will become a primary location for RK’s e-commerce and retail fulfillment operations, according to its press release.

Among the customers on whose behalf the company will manage inventories and pack and ship orders are appliance manufacturer Miele, portable speaker developer Soundboks and Sole to Sole.

RK expects to hire up to 50 employees to staff and operate the new facilities, according to its press statement. It is also looking to fill 50 positions at its other locations in Fremont and Hayward. The family-owned business employs more than 400 people and has nearly one million square feet of warehouse and distribution capacity, the statement said.

This is only the latest expansion for RK. In October, the company opened a new warehouse and distribution facility in Hayward and renewed a lease for a warehouse in Fremont. At the time, the company said it expected to add another 100,000 square feet of new warehouse space this year. The Newark facilities alone will more than quadruple that target.

Townsend Commercial Real Estate represented RK during lease negotiations for both of its new Newark warehouses, Magnan said. Brokers John McManus, Sam Higgins and Victor DeBoer of Cushman & Wakefield’s Oakland office represented landlords Link Logistics Real Estate and Overton Moore Properties in those transactions.
