RK Logistics Funds Summer Recreation Scholarships for Underserved Fremont Kids

Fremont, CALIF. – March 7, 2019 — RK Logistics Group, a Silicon Valley leader in third-party logistics (3PL), has once again teamed up with the City of Fremont’s Community Services Department to provide scholarships for low-income children enabling them to participate in summer recreation programs.

It’s the third consecutive year RK Logistics has stepped up to fund the summer scholarship program. The company’s $1,450 charitable contribution will support scholarships for up to 18 low-income children living within the City of Fremont, funding their participation in summer recreation youth program.

The scholarships help underwrite activities including swim lessons for children ages 3 to 17, tiny-tot programs, summer camps, reading development programs, art classes, park admission passes and other youth-oriented programming. Children who qualify for the Fremont Unified School District’s school lunch program are eligible to apply for the scholarships.

“We’re excited to once again support this important summer recreation programming,” said Rod Kalune, founder, chairman and CEO of RK Logistics Group. “These are valuable community programs that with local business support, are able to benefit many of our residents who otherwise would not be able to enjoy them. It’s an important investment that we see as part of our responsibility as a Fremont business and community leader to support families in need.”

All of the donation is used exclusively to fund youth summer program scholarships, explained Lance Sheetz, general manager of Fremont’s Aqua Adventure Waterpark.

“We have more demand every year for youth-oriented recreation activities and programming,” said Sheetz. “Serving this need would not be possible without the generous support of businesses like RK Logistics Group. Their donation enables more access to more low-income residents, which ultimately helps further our mission to better the lives of children in the city of Fremont.”

A privately-held minority-owned business enterprise, Fremont-based RK Logistics Group is a growing local company with over 600 employees. The company operates 14 warehousing centers in the greater Bay Area representing nearly 1 million square feet of commercial distribution space for inventory management, manufacturing support and ecommerce fulfillment.

RK is also an industry leader in adopting autonomous robot-assisted order picking and fulfillment technologies, and creating special industry-specific programs, such as sequencing parts into lean production lines at automotive and technology equipment factories, and just-in-time (JIT) deliveries to construction sites.

In addition, RK Logistics operates the South Bay’s only certified, general purpose Foreign Trade Zone, which allows Silicon Valley manufacturing and importing companies to benefit from various trade policies and practices that can reduce administrative regulatory costs and associated tariffs and duties for imported goods, while protecting the integrity of high-value products in secured environment and improving supply chain velocity.
